Greeting

Dear Esteemed Members,
Greetings from The Korean Society of Brain Neuromodulation Therapy (KBNT).
The Korean Society of Brain Neuromodulation Therapy was officially launched in March 2023, alongside its inaugural
mini-symposium. As an academic research organization, we have taken our first step toward advancing patient treatment and
cutting-edge research through brain neuromodulation.
At a time when global societies are rapidly aging, degenerative brain and nervous system diseases,
as well as sensory-affecting conditions such as chronic pain, are emerging as significant societal issues—conditions
that modern medicine has yet to fully conquer.
While pharmacological treatments and invasive surgical methods have been studied over many years,
these approaches continue to face substantial limitations,
both in terms of treatment efficacy and safety, in the fight against degenerative brain and nervous system disorders.
In response to these challenges, there has been growing global interest in non-invasive brain neuromodulation techniques.
Many studies have been conducted, and several of these non-invasive technologies have already
been commercialized and applied in medical settings. Additionally, clinical trials are underway to explore various degenerative
brain and nervous system diseases, with researchers working tirelessly to establish new treatment indications.
In keeping with this global movement, we have established this academic research society to bring together
clinical experts and researchers in related fields to engage in discussion, learning, and the sharing of expertise.
Our aim is to foster the advancement of knowledge and understanding in this field.
Through the Korean Society of Brain Neuromodulation Therapy, we hope to overcome the current limitations in treating
degenerative brain and nervous system diseases that lack satisfactory clinical solutions.
We will bring together basic scientists and clinical researchers who study a variety of non-invasive brain neuromodulation
techniques—such as magnetic stimulation, direct and alternating electrical stimulation, low-intensity focused ultrasound,
and low-dose radiation—in a concerted effort to address the increasing prevalence of degenerative brain and
nervous system disorders in an aging society.
Furthermore, we aim to build a collaborative platform not only within Korea but also with talented researchers around the world.
By closely connecting with international academic societies in the field, we aspire to create a forum for advancing
brain neuromodulation therapies.
Non-invasive brain neuromodulation techniques, which are expected to open new doors in the treatment of degenerative
nervous system diseases, align with the new paradigms emerging from the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
We are committed to ensuring that this society provides a bright and promising platform for current and
future researchers who are interested in this field.
We ask for your continued support and interest in our society.
May 2023
Sincerely,
President Lee Joonhong
